UTA STRELIVE
World Champion Bird Carver
Uta Strelive is a one of a kind. Fascinated by birds since she was a small child in East Germany Uta has gone on to capture the title of the only Female World Championship in Bird Carving. Uta’s attention to detail with her artform utterly astounding. It was during her time spent as a research assistant in the Zoology Department at the University of Guelph that Uta began to compete in world class competitions in the art of bird carving.
She has captured such distinguished titles as World Champion at such challenging competitions such as the Ocean City Maryland bird carving championship as well as the Canadian Sportsman Show in Toronto.
In order to be successful in creating the intricacy of her fine feathered friends, Uta studies the behaviour of birds, how they perch, how they feed and how they interact in their native habitat. Some of her carvings such as the Grey Faced Screech Owl resting in the hollow of a tree is truly incredible. Uta has carved Ruby Throated Hummingbirds in mid flight, Great Blue Herons and other marsh birds and common birds found in the backyards of many Canadian settings.
Carvings may often take 8 – 12 months to complete a carving using Tupelo and Basswood as her medium of choice.
Enjoy this magnificent art form from a truly fascinating and incredible woman.
